If you follow gaming at all I’m sure you’ve heard about the popularity of Fortnite. Fortnite is a truly amazing survival game that was created by Epic Games. When it first came out it was all my friends and coworkers were talking about. The game is a survival game, but the difference is that you must scavenge and complete missions for all of the supplies you need in order to survive against your competition. And your competition is also regularly falling from the sky forcing you to constantly change your approach and tactics. Just when you think you’re getting the hang of it a new unknown is introduced. So you want to start gaming in Fortnite, but how do you get started? In this article, we’re going to share some of the basic things you need to get started in Fortnite.
Scavenging is Priority
If you want to survive, let alone win, you need to make scavenging the main priority. Your number one goal should be to be effective at scavenging for the supplies you need to beat out your competition. Wood, Stone, and Metal are some of the most important items you’ll need. They serve as the foundation or building blocks of walls and floors of structures. You need LOTS of these items.
You can get Wood from trees and other things made out of wood like logs and wooden structures. Stone can be found around rocks that you can hit with your pickaxe. Metal can be acquired from metal pipes or cars or from metal ore in caves.
Then Use Schematics to Get New Weapons
What are schematics? It’s your way of getting new weapons, and schematics can be acquired by opening chests or by bursting Llamas in the Loot tab in your Main Menu. You may be tempted to upgrade your Schematics right away when you have the experience, but don’t do this! Why? Because when you upgrade an item you increase the cost of crafting materials. And even worse, if you upgrade a Schematic too far, you aren’t able to get to use those Schematics until a later point in the game is reached. So avoid this at all costs! You’ll thank me later. 🙂
Be Sure to Build New Weapons
Do you know what the Durability feature is yet? Every weapon has a specific Durability, which means once the durability of the weapon runs out, the weapon breaks and you have to equip another weapon. This feature alone from Epic Games adds a very interesting dynamic to the gameplay. So as you’re playing, be sure to be on the lookout for Toolboxes and other objects so you can build new weapons from your Schematics when the Durability runs out. However, don’t just pick up everything you find because you’re limited on the space you have for your inventory.
The Durability of a weapon can be seen by the line on the right of its icon. The line starts at the very top and wears down as you continue to use the weapon. So just be aware of your Durability and craft the weapons when you need them.
