What Tools Are Too Much?
A lot of us have many tools in our toolbox, which can get pretty hectic really fast. It’s important to stay prepared, but you don’t want to dampen your productivity by having a lot of unnecessary items in your toolbox or work space.

1. Organize by Color Code
The color of instruments that you use may be an indicator of how you can organize those items. However, a lot of instruments are all the same color, gray. There are a few different solutions that you can use to organize. Here are a few of the solutions that we recommend and think are the best ways to solving your clutter problem:

- Use professional colored markers

- Buy tools that are colored
This method can get expensive really fast. We would recommend using the other two methods if you already have mounds of tools that require sorting. But if your looking to buy new tools anyway, then this method is extremely essential!
We recommend searching your local hardware stores for this method. The reason we recommend this way, is that the local shops can offer more of a customized offer that online shopping may not offer.
2. Organize by Size Sorting
If you’ve bought a set of wrenches or screwdrivers in the past, then you know how many sizes there are in the entire set. This can be a convenient way to sorting your mess.
We recommend taking the same type of tool and putting it with the smaller versions of that type. For example, take your screwdriver set and always keep those screwdrivers on the right side of your toolbox. Then, take your array of wrenches and put them all on the left side of the toolbox.
We are more concerned with the type and the size of the tool, not just the size. Throwing all the 1-inch tools in a bag is a little too difficult for us at the Converge headquarters, that’s why we prefer to go about it this way.
3. Have Multiple Toolboxes
Your toolbox may be cluttered no matter what you do! That’s why this recommendation is essential for all you who have way too many tools to count. It may sound like were surrendering to the tool problem when we say ‘Just buy another toolbox,’ but really it may be the best case for you.

4. Only What You Need to Organize
This step requires a question: ‘Are you likely to pursue preparedness or organization?’ Sometimes we need odd tools on a job and bring them along with us in the toolbox, but this also brings more clutter if you’re not prepared.

This solution is extremely handy and we highly recommend it. A lot of the time we as humans get attached to things that we put value in. The things we put value in may be old and outdated. Sometimes we have things in our toolbox that shouldn’t be there in the first place. Do you really need five of the same type and size of screwdriver?
Our simple solution: if you haven’t used a tool within a year and a half, then get rid of it. We, on Converge, like to give our unused tools to the local second-hand stores. There’s something about the feeling of benefiting someone else with something your not using anymore.
You don’t have to get rid of the tools, sometimes all you need to do is take them out of your toolbox and put them into your shop or home. This solution is all about freeing up space for your essential items.
6. Labels
In addition to size sorting and color sorting, you can add labels to particular toolboxes or tool bags for further clarification. All projects require a different tool, and when we open our toolboxes to check for tools, it takes time. That time could be spent actually working on the project.
One way to avoid this is to have labels, think about it, if you have labels on your toolbox showcasing what’s inside, then you don’t have to waste time digging through your boxes for the tools.
