A Thankful Heart, A Happy Heart

We take so many things for granted. We should be more thankful. We fight with our families about things that don’t matter. We complain when we get stuck behind a slow driver. We get cranky if we have to wait longer than we would like at a restaurant. What makes us think we’re so entitled? I don’t mean to pull the “starving kids in Africa card” but seriously, we actually have really good lives. We should be more thankful than we are.

When I find myself starting to complain about going to work, I have to remind myself of how blessed I am to even have a job. It’s easy to get caught up in a “me, me, me!” mindset that only leaves us unsatisfied as we dwell on all the things we don’t like.

You can find a reason to be thankful in every situation. The next time you fight with your family, be thankful you have a family to fight with. The next time you get stuck in traffic, be thankful you have a car to be stuck in traffic with. The next time you’re in a restaurant and have to wait for your order a little longer than expected, be thankful you have the opportunity to go out for a meal in the first place.
We lose sight of just how blessed we really are. Take a few minutes to think about all that God has blessed you with the next time you find yourself starting to complain.

Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Philippians 2:14-15

Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
